Quantitative study of imperfection-sensitivity of shells is made within framework of W.T.Koiter's general theory; results are given for axial and ring stiffened cylinders under axial compression and hydrostatic pressure; in some instances, in particular in case of axially stiffened cylinders under axial load, sensitivity to imperfections, as well as classical buckling load appears to be strongly dependent on whether stringers are attached to outside or inside of cylinder; under certain conditions stiffening can reduce or perhaps completely eliminate imperfection-sensitivity, whereas in other cases it may play much smaller role in lowering sensitivity.
