Colinear model of crash system, established with occupant simulated as concentrated restrained mass; solutions of differential equation, expressing motions of vehicle and occupant; concept of tuned system is established, which succeeds in stopping elastically restrained occupant; deviation from tuned situation results in sling-shot effect; off-tune situation is analyzed for square wave type structure collapse as it occurs when system is crashed at varying speeds and manned by different weight occupants; vehicle in collision must be dealt with as system, of which vehicle front end collapse history, natural period of restrained occupant, and type of occupant restraint are important factors.
