Network technique for nonambiguous designation of vehicle at exact position within system of roads as well as selected route by which vehicle may proceed to any other point in system; based on nodes of highway system, code is developed for eight branches connecting to one node; number of possible branches connecting to node is limited by available space in highway network; suggested technique for coding includes nodes named in manner to provide maximum information, branches designated by most significant cardinal compass heading from each node, and position description by adding measured distance to given point from adjoining node.
