Factors which affect trial and service endurances of steam driven oil fired combatant ships of U S Navy; these include hull surface condition, boiler operations and condition, weather, and turbine and gear operation; it is suggested 10% savings in steam combatant fuel costs could be realized with better design and operating practices.
