Comparison is made between VSCF (variable speed, constant frequency) system and conventional (constant speed, constant frequency) system; it is found that operational and environmental requirements of both types are very close; electric power systems will require only minor design changes for use on supersonic transports; VSCF system is not competitive with conventional system on lb/kva basis, assuming equal performance requirements; rate of progress in VSCF system development is such that system must be seriously considered for aircraft in preliminary specification phase.
