Results obtained from NASA investigations of runway roughness are used to assess adequacy of runway roughness criteria based on power spectral density techniques; analytical method for studying repairs to unsatisfactory runways described consisted in taxiing simulated aircraft along simulated runway in need of repair; acceleration and pitch responses of aircraft were recorded and related to specific bumps or depressions in runway; simulated runway was then repaired to reduce or eliminate major rough spots and subsequent taxi runs were made to determine effect of repairs on responses.
