Tri-service, V/STOL transport is employing tilt-wing concept for vertical lift; five aircraft are being built by Ling-Temco-Vought; interrelationship of tilt-wing deflected slipstream concept and flight control system led to certain problems; aerodynamic analysis led to selection of counter-rotating propellers and leading edge slats; stringent weight guarantees posed challenge in view of interconnecting cross-shaft system and associated dynamic and aeroelastic problems; high intensity noise was major design consideration; establishment of design criteria posed most important problem.
