Landing gear design challenges for V/STOL service are identified as imposed by weight, ground flotation, rough field operation, drift landings and takeoffs, landing load factor, cost, maintainability, and reliability; general approach, taken by LTV Aerospace Corp, to design of XC-142A, V/STOL transport, landing gear system is described; design of nose gear presented unusually complex requirements which are indicated.
