Thermal stress limits of block brakes are determined, in case of tired wheels, by loosening of tires, and for both solid and tired wheels by thermal deformation; stress limits of Knorr gray iron brake disks are determined by heat resistance of synthetic lining; test bed trials indicate that disk brake will be suitable for higher speeds.
