Main features of progressive designs of truck mineral oil tank cars supplied to oversea railroads are described and critically examined from technical and economic point of view; manner in which carrying capacities have been increased and possible methods of attaining further increases are stated; some reasons are given for incorporation of certain features in narrow gage cars as compared with corresponding practice in use on standard gage rail-tankers built for service on British Railways; interior finish of tank barrels on cars which are frequently used to carry different grades of mineral oil, or even entirely different products is considered.
