Despite train weights now hauled in United States, Mallets of war period have all been of one or other of double 6-coupled or 8-coupled wheel arrangements; articulation has in some cases brought benefits additional to simple increase in practicable train loading, which is immediate reason for recent concentration on Mallet construction.
