Locomotive of 2-8-8-4 type weighs with tender 499 tons and was built by American Locomotive Co. for North Western Railroad to perform work of 2 Mikado locomotives; largest firebox and boiler ever applied to steam locomotive because of bituminous coal used; boiler barrel is conical type for 250-lb. working pressure; 4 cylinders, each 26 in. diam. by 32 in. stroke.
