London transport has introduced device which, attached to crane hook, enables 300-ft lengths of welded rail to be installed rapidly and easily by small labor force; laying speeds of up to 2 mi/hr can be achieved; device consists of two 2 1/2-in. diam rollers, each 9 in. long, mounted between side plates; rollers rotate in roller races housed in side plates.
