Increase in services required improved land facilities for quick traffic turnover, new berth and extended pier; operational research and work study were used for traffic flow diagram and cost design of structures; new terminal has been designed basically around four berths although provision of loading bridge in No. 4 berth only is included in first stage of work; when complete, all berths will be served by common reception and customs facilities, thus economizing in staff required to operate terminal.
