Design of locomotive was governed by wind tunnel research and open line trials concerning influence of air currents at high running speeds; 1 hr rating of locomotive is 6200 kw at 193 km/hr; corresponding wheel-rim tractive effort is 11,800 kg; locomotive is single-frame with two three-axled trucks; underframe is all welded structure composed of longitudinal and transverse plating with joint top plating; locomotive is single-phase a-c for 15,000 v, 16.2/3 cps, with a-c commutator motors; controls and results of running tests.
