Handling of sawn timber to, within and from storage yards by current British practices is reviewed; road vehicles, trailers, rail trucks and lighters are compared; stacking methods are discussed; sideloaders, straddle carriers, fork lift trucks and cranes are illustrated; packaging of timber into standardized handleable sets at source is recommended.
