Review of ship assembly methods reveals three generally accepted shipbuilding methods: "custom built" job, unit or sectional, and continuous assembly; explanation of each given; observation of shipbuilding procedure over period of years reveals that for given design of vessel building at several shipyards, close symmetry exists in erection order of hull units and components; method for computing typical erection schedule; material erection schedule for auxiliary vessel given in table.
