Exhaustive analysis of thermal and economic gains through employment of 900, 1500 and 2500 psi and steam temperatures up to 940 F, as compared with present standard practice for merchant vessels involving 425 psi throttle pressure; several cycles permitting use of high pressures are discussed; it is concluded that marine power plant using 1425 lb per sq in., 740 F initial steam conditions, and two steam reheat stages, is thoroughly practicable for powers of order of 10,000 shp per shaft.
