Constructed on Isherwood bracketless system; length o.a. 465.8 ft., beam 52 ft., gross tonnage 8300 and service speed 11 knots; rudder is of Oertz type and is operated by Broan electro-hydraulic Wain-type four-stroke Diesel engines designed to give service speed of 11 knots and maximum speed of 11 3/4 knots; there are six cylinders to each engine 550 mm. diam. with piston stroke of 1500 mm. total machinery output being 4250 i.hp. at 125 r.p.m.
