Voyage was undertaken by author from United Kingdom to Canada and return, for making observations of behavior of cargo ship under seagoing conditions; careful note was taken of transverse and longitudinal straining of structure, and prevailing weather conditions, with view to correlating two sets of data; information on influence of structural discontinuities on general variation of stress.
