Eleven streets in various London areas were selected for purposes of comparison; streets were specially selected to include sections of major components of urban land use such as shopping, residential and industrial areas; for analysis each roadway was divided into small sections of between 10 and 20 yds except at crossings where crossing itself was taken as section; nature of pedestrian flow was studied; pedestrian flow and casualty distributions are related to give measure of risk that pedestrians run in crossing road at different points.
