Process involves interaction of ship motions, optical landing system, pilot/aircraft combination, air wake disturbances, and Landing Signal Officer; mathematical models for these elements and methods for determining operational performance indices from terminal landing error dispersion data are presented; new concept, termed "compensated-meatball stabilization", considers dynamics of carrier landing system elements and optimizes Fresnel lens logic scheme for increased landing performance against carrier deck motions; results of simulator experiments.
