As result of planning effort for new Mid-Continent International Airport at Kansas City, Mo, concept of terminal design known as gate arrival scheme has emerged; gate arrival concept simply carries forward decentralization idea virtually to its ultimate, and produces group of small unit terminals connected end to end; it provides practical approach to terminal-complex design concept which allows air passengers to alight from ground transportation virtually at entrance to appropriate gate hold areas, and to depart by same short routes, marries aircraft and automobile parking, and sharply reduces car to aircraft walking distance.
