Engine is designed primarily for all-wheel-drive prototype vehicle, developed by Harry Ferguson Research Ltd, and is capable of speeds in excess of 100 mph; horizontally-opposed 4-cyl layout of 2.2 liter capacity was adopted; overhead-camshaft operation was chosen in conjunction with novel combustion-chamber design which had been developed in "lash-up" form on previous pushrod engine; other important design features are described and principal specifications presented.
