Operational characteristics of 4200 tph marine transfer terminal, where river and oceangoing vessels simultaneously exchange cargoes of coal and phosphate rock; materials handling machinery includes bucket ladder barge unloader, rope operated clamshell bucket unloader, coal loader, and rail mounted bucket wheel machine; docks and conveying, breasting and barge-haul systems in use at facility are described; design considerations imposed by soil and river conditions, geography, operating needs and investment requirements are discussed.
