4200 ton/hr marine transfer terminal is now in operation near mouth of Mississippi; its materials handling machinery includes bucket ladder barge unloader; rope operated clamshell bucket unloader; coal loader; and rail mounted bucket wheel machine; design and operation of this equipment is described as are docks and conveying, breasting and barge-haul systems in use at facility; design considerations imposed by soil and river conditions, geography, operating needs and investment requirements are discussed; economic significance of design and shipping innovations introduced by this facility is noted.
