Summary of all types of rail failures during period 1952-55, including those in switch and crossing work removed because of break, crack or defect; it is suggested reduction of failures could be achieved by renewing rails more frequently; new 109 lb per yd flatbottom section shows promise towards attainment of longer rail life; use of ultrasonic flaw detectors; note on Rail Failure Handbook and Report Form in use on British Railways.
