Experimental investigation of theoretical solutions; stress and deflection tests on four mild steel plates, are compared with solutions given by S.TIMOSHENKO, J.F.BLEICH, C.G.CHANG and H.D.CONWAY; Bleich's approximate method is sufficiently accurate for use in design of ship plating; families of design curves, incorporating theoretical solutions and main experimental results are presented.
