Various aspects of standardization are considered and problems encountered are discussed with particular reference made to Bristol Omnibus Co Ltd's fleet of over 1300 vehicles all of which but six are of Bristol make; fleet has, however, over 30 distinct vehicle types, as indicated in table; some of these are alternative combinations of relatively standardized units, but each of types listed is noninterchangeable on either operating or mechanical basis; approach to standardization taken by London Transport operating fleet of 7000 vehicles which belong to two basic families; other approaches are indicated.
