Operational problems in modern marshalling yards discussed include rolling behavior of cars, track gradient in accuracies, gradient control, air resistance effect, retarder behavior, and car damage rate in marshalling yards; results from tests on power of clasp retarders are presented; efficiency of clasp retarders fitted with radar control of exit speed.
