Parametric study of means for eliminating undesirable coupling between bending, sloshing, and control presents amount of damping necessary for propellants in tanks; for vehicle in which propellants of only one container is free to oscillate, magnitude and location of danger zone depends on location of control gyroscope; if location exhibits positive slope, propellant baffling is required only in small zone around center of instantaneous rotation; for negative-bending-mode slope at gyro location, danger zone is large; keeping control, sloshing, and bending frequencies well separated yields, with proper control system, reasonable baffle requirements to maintain vehicle stability.
