Marine gyrocompass of novel configuration, developed by Sperry Gyroscope Co, in New York; gyro-compass was developed to fill requirement for single instrument which would provide both azimuth and vertical stable references in ship; meridian gyro is made to seek north by means of liquid level and torquer combination; second gyro is leveled and slaved at right angles to first; thus meridian gyro seeks north and plane of gyro axes defines horizontal; principles of operation are described; detailed description of construction is given as is also account of means of correcting gyro attitude for both earth movement and ship maneuvers.
