Principle of automatic speed control system and operation of automatic fixed-point braking system are discussed; examples of system installation on German industrial railroad network are described; in tests conducted by German Federal Railroads for operating express trains at speeds of 200 km/hr, one of locomotives used was equipped with automatic speed control, fixed-point braking and program store for timetable making it possible for locomotive to travel without action by driver.
