Notes on 80-lb "Early Bird" communications satellite built by Hughes Aircraft Co for Communications Satellite Corp; it will provide 240 two-way telephone channels between Europe and North America, two-way TV broadcasts, and will also carry teletype and photo-facsimile equipment; after being launched by Thrust-Augmented Delta rocket, and directed into near synchronous orbit by solid propellant motor at fourth apogee, hydrogen peroxide control jets will bring satellite to desired 27.5°W longitude position over Atlantic at height of 22,300 mi, and reorient its attitude; photograph is included.
