Paper presents fundamental data from which performance of high-speed track-laying vehicles can be estimated; percentage of gross engine horsepower, available at driving sprocket, is indicated and this must be equated to resistance to motion, likely to be encountered; losses in track and suspension system and effect of track tension; horsepower required per ton of vehicle weight to achieve unit of speed on various broad types of terrain is indicated; since cross-country mobility also involves ability to cross water obstacles, water resistance of hulls is taken into account, and overall efficiency that may be expected from various means of propulsion.
