United States Maritime Service training ship "American Sailor," formerly carrier Edgemont, rebuilt at Baltimore plant of Shipbuilding Division of Bethlehem Steel Co; length bp 409 ft 6 in.; beam molded 54 ft; depth 37 ft 9 in.; main propulsion unit is cross compound, double reduction geared turbine driving single screw; at 90 rpm on propeller shaft, unit develops 2500 shp; steam generated in Scotch marine boilers fired by Dahl oil burners and operating at 210 psi.
