Effect of entrained water for propellers oscillating both torsionally and axially in water; systematically varying characteristics of 49 16-in. models showed effects of blade area ratio, pitch ratio, number of blades, etc; simple empirical expressions for first estimation were derived; proposed calculating method allows entrained mass effects to be estimated directly from completed propeller drawing.
