Phase 1 of major reconstruction scheme at Cammell Laird's shipyard at Birkenhead is now complete; new drydock, named Princess Dock, is 950 ft long, has entrance width of 140 ft and is 148 ft wide in barrel; other major works include new shops for handling large prefabricated sections for shipbuilding, reconstruction of jetty, re-craning with 2 100-ton electric traveling cranes, extension of shipbuilding berths, tanker cleaning berth, etc.
