History of shipbuilding on River Lee, connecting Lower Harbor with river port of Cork, which has gravitated between new building and repair work; repair work was ultimately focused on drydock at Rushbrooke dockyard for both shipbuilding and repairs; planning and construction of new yard is discussed with particular reference to problems of establishing new industry in predominantly rural area; training program for completely untrained labor force is described.
