Experimental service, being run with Vickers VA-3 Hovercraft by British United Airways in conjunction with manufacturers and British Petroleum, has been planned to gain experience in operating Hovercraft on passenger services and to evaluate their commercial potential; overall dimensions of VA-3 are length 54 ft 9 in., width 25 ft and height 17 ft 9 in.; all-up weight is 28,000 lb; power for propulsion and lift is provided by 4 Bristol Siddeley Turmo 603 gas turbine engines.
