Response of lifting airfoil that is pivoted about span-wise axis can be made stable to incidence changes by linking its movement to that of attached flap control; enhanced lift-curve slope obtainable, response to incidence change, and application of control forces and movements are considered; it is noted airfoil surfaces that can be rotated about hinge line aligned in span-wise direction are, e.g., used for horizontal and vertical tail surfaces of aircraft, for ship hydrofoil stabilizers, for ship rudders, and for submarine controls.
