Design tradeoff study illustrates contribution maintainability analysis can make to establishment of design requirements; maintenance is important to effectiveness and cost of weapon system; demonstrated is constant effectiveness/minimum cost tradeoff which accounts for major maintenance considerations and which allows optimum set of design requirements to be generated; methodologies are included for attributing accident data to component malfunctions, analyzing abort and availability rates, as well as manpower, skill, equipment and subsystem life costs.
