Work described indicates that short combustion time is generally associated with low fuel requirement chambers; high rate of burn to obtain short combustion time is controlled principally by flame travel, turbulence and proper mass distribution of charge; careful coordination of these factors necessary to obtain lowest octane requirement; problems of deposits.
