Basic aerodynamic relations needed for design of wings and procedures are developed for determining physical wing form required to obtain maximum value of lift-drag ratio at cruise, when wing spanwise camber-line and section profiles are specified, by optimizing wing chord and twist distributions with respect to profile and induced drags; application of procedure is illustrated by determining physical wing form for circular-arc spanwise camber line efficiency of which is compared with that of equal-span, flat wing of elliptical planform which satisfies same set of flight operating conditions as does cambered wing.
