Considerations that depend upon technical predictions of reliability of SST propulsion system from viewpoint of air lines and necessary scope and timing of such predictions; methods for making quantitative assessments of potential reliability, including broader concepts are suggested; from viewpoint of airline engineer, paper shows what reliability information is needed, when it should be made available, who must contribute to its generation, and why all participants can benefit from constructive exchange of views on its meaning.
