Paper is based on 1968 costs as documented in "Advanced Nuclear Cargo Ship Study" prepared by General Dynamics Corp for Maritime Administration; study was comparative analysis of equivalent 30 knot nuclear and fossil fueled containership systems operating on Trade Route 12 between United States East Coast and Far East; sensitivity analysis was also made for these ships for operation in 1984 between United States East Coast and Australia (Trade Route 16) to test effect of certain conditions and long term trends; ship characteristics, propulsion plant, construction, operating expenses, tax aspects, fuel costs, rate of return, etc, are taken into account.
