Empirical studies to examine possibility that conditions either upstream or downstream also affect shape of flow rate-density curve for bottleneck location; bottlenecks discussed are those which are caused by geometrics of freeway; according to theory, rate of flow downstream of bottleneck does not decrease under congestion if enough vehicles can be fed to bottleneck to maintain its capacity flow.
