Requirements of modern warfare with respect to earthmoving equipment; examples of equipment developed such as Universal Engineer Track (UET); work which UET can carry out; concept BEST (Ballastable Earthmoving Sectionalized Tractor) front section of which weighs 6300 lb and incorporates powered wheels, operator's compartment, steering mechanism, and universal mounting plate for bulldozer blade and other attachments; 8000-lb rear unit features powered wheels, 250-hp diesel engine, auxiliary power, and mounting plate for towing winch, crane, backhoe, and other attachments; sections can be carried by aircraft or helicopter; other developments.
