Block, owned by Inland Steel Co, converted from steam to Diesel electric propulsion by American Shipbldg Co; length oa 552 ft; beam 56 ft; depth 31 ft; propelled by two 12-cyl, 2-cycle General Motors Diesel engines developing 1200 bhp each at 175 rpm, direct connected to Allis Chalmers 814-kw, 560-v, d-c generators, with 24-kw, 120-v, d-c exciters.
