Investigations made during launching of two similar ships, one of which was partly welded and the other of riveted construction; object was to measure longitudinal strains and deflections imposed on ship's structure during launching and to relate these to position of ship on the ways; relative magnitudes of quantities for two forms of construction; time records of strain, deflection, and position of ship on ways were made.
